I’d like to say that I can’t believe Stephen Harper was elected again but the truth is I’m not surprised. The only positive thing is that he didn’t get his sought after majority. That should say something to Mr. Harper but I doubt he has given it a second thought. The only reason the Liberals lost seats is because of the tenuous leadership of Mr. Dion. If they had had someone else in power I’m not so sure the Conservatives would have been so victorious.
Mr. Harper is not a politician we should be electing to govern our country. He isn’t there for the greater good of
To be fair I have never been a Conservative supporter. I am not a staunch capitalist and I don’t agree with the cuts to the arts or the copyright bill that Mr. Harper’s government has put forth. I wouldn’t consider myself a complete socialist either so I don’t think I could in good conscience support the NDP because I think they go too far the other way. The Green party’s politics do not impress me. I read bits of their party platform the other day and they want to eliminate income tax for those that make $20 000 or less a year! That’s insanity! That is not a realistic solution! That is only going to increase the amount of fraud in the system.
The Liberals were also not impressive. So really there was no one I wanted to vote for. My own riding chose the Liberal candidate but from my research it would appear it has been Liberal since 1993. The results were not surprising.
I saw an article online a few weeks back that stated Canadians do not vote strategically. I have to disagree. I know enough people that would vote Liberal despite the fact that they support the NDP or Green party just because they didn’t want the Conservatives to get a majority. Until Stephen Harper is ousted I can’t see that there will be a majority government. Besides we’ve seen that majority governments just get lazy.
I was a bit upset to notice that my old home riding went NDP. In fact most of the ridings in the surrounding area went NDP. As if they didn’t have enough problems they are adding this to the mix. The place is horribly economically depressed and as it is completely ignored by the provincial and federal governments. There is no way the NDP, which has no power in parliament, is going to bring attention to the issues that TB needs. They have just sent themselves up a creek without a paddle. It is so frustrating to watch your hometown fall apart because no one wants to fix it and the people with the power to fix it are too concerned about themselves to actually do their job.
This whole election was a waste of money and taxpayer time!
